The Morning After

Empty Castlegate
Yesterday was a beautifully sunny day. Bitterly cold and windy but bright. And everything but the pubs and cinemas was shut while Scotland nursed its new year hangover.

I love walking the streets when they're bleak and empty, but it's not often I'm up early enough on a Sunday to do so. Yesterday, I made the most of having a whole day to play with and spent a couple of hours around lunchtime walking around with my camera.
Deflating balloon on an empty street
Empty St Nicholas Square / Derelict sandwich shop
Empty Windmill Brae
Balloons outside Snafu
Empty street / Shut up cafe seen through slatted blinds
Window / Shadow of street lamp
Holburn Street
The walk of shame in a onesie
Sun peeking over Justice Mill Brae
Ice cubes in the gutter
"It's the best party in town" sign over a boarded up door
Part of a bike tied to a lamppost
Chilly couple outside shops

  1. Haha I love that you found folk in onesies, presumably on their way home! :)

  2. Love these photos! It's strange seeing a city look so deserted.

Happy new year, Sarah. I hope 2013 is great for you xo

  3. I ran across the road to follow them with my camera! It was midday and they were still totally hammered (so, too drunk to notice me!).

  4. Amazing photographs!

  5. Those people in the animal costumes! Nice shot.

  6. What is that thing on the ground in that one picture? A fruit of some kind? So many awesome photos, one of the many reasons I love your blog!

  7. I love this set of photos Sarah! It's funny how sad things look after the promise of the night before.

  8. Exactly. So abandoned and forgotten.

Please play nice.
